The clarinet and percussion duo araia performs four new works.

This evening features world premieres of four works written for araia by the composers Victoria Nunes Finstad, Jorge Gómez Elizondo, Sergio Castrillón and Kristine Tjøgersen.

araia was created by clarinetist and composer Elena Perales Andreu and percussionist and composer Madalena Rato. Both based in Oslo, and both provenient from the Iberic Peninsula, the cultural connection between each other was immediate. The duo’s name is inspired by the border between Portugal and Spain also called ‘A Raia’ and reflects the duo’s work very accurately. araia works only with contemporary music, either in collaborations with other composers or with our own compositions and improvisations, but always trying to expand the lines, borders and limits for ourselves, composers and listeners.
