cigarra
cigarra is a collective of variable geometry dedicated to the interpretation and creation of contemporary music. The group collaborates with artists from different fields who explore sound as the central material of their practices.
Taking experimentation as its guiding principle, Cigarra moves between composition and improvisation, between acoustic gesture and electronic manipulation, seeking to expand the expressive possibilities of percussion and sound in the contemporary context.
Its activity encompasses the interpretation of contemporary repertoire, improvisation and the creation of new works in partnership with composers and artists who work with both acoustic and electronic media.
As a percussion group, it presents a diverse body of work that includes national premieres of works by Julian Sartorius, Michael Pisaro, Eva-Maria Houben, Cathy Van Eck and Ángeles Rojas, among others. It has performed at festivals such as Cidade Preocupada, Profound Whatever and Arca (OSSO), as well as in various venues and performance contexts.
cigarra is the resident ensemble of CIGARRA - Associação Cultural , where it pursues its artistic and research activities.
