for suspended speakers & resonant bodies
by Ferdinand Schwarz
This piece explores the interaction between sine waves, snares and movement. Each speaker is hanging from the ceiling to be in movement and emits simple frequencies, revealing their interactions in space, complex beating patterns, diffractive oceans of difference emerge and dissolve in slow movements. These frequencies are also activating the snares that, together with the moving speakers, add a beautiful layer of sound, contributing for the tactility of the waves. The act of listening tells us more about the person listening than about the sound at hand. In times of constant information flood and acceleration, the modes in which we engage with our world can become fertile ambassadors of change and ground for opposing possible futures.
In such a setup listeners can create their own music by just listening. Listening becomes an active and creative tool for self-experience and presence – observing ourselves observing, listening to ourselves listening.
